PRECIOUS TIME
A short film I recently wrote and directed for BALBLAIR whisky.
In getting to know the people and brand it soon became very evident the passion for what they create, alongside the importance of heritage and authenticity being all important.
Balblair is a brand that knowingly and wisely whispers rather than shouts, it has little interest in trends.
Spending time with the distillery’s manager John MacDonald was precious and I felt John typified the essence of the brand’s foundations. John and I chatted on many occasions and I mentioned one of the greatest moments for me in enjoying a whisky was that slight pause just before the first sip even touches your lips, the anticipation, a respectful pause to the many years it’s taken to create and this was going to be both the essence of the film, the moment and the final scene.
I asked John if he was happy for me to make the film around him and graciously he agreed.
The film is of course about whisky but perhaps not primary, more so Balblair paying homage and respecting something far greater than any product …time itself and how precious it is to us all. It unites the globe in many ways.
I wanted to celebrate the importance of the moment, taking the time to enjoy the moment, to write a letter and make an event personal. I wanted to respect treasure handed down and to breathe in nature’s magical moments unhurried, be it a sunrise, watching clouds pass or the gentle trickle of a running stream.
It is so very true that time stands still for no one …it is important that we enjoy every moment that we may capture as a treasured memory.
Here’s to ‘PRECIOUS TIME’.
